Hiring Heavy Construction Equipment: Tips, Ideas and Money-Saving Advice

After years in the construction industry, I went on hiatus last year to start my own company doing interior painting. But I decided to take my experience from construction work and start a blog. I hope that if you are hiring construction equipment, my posts provide you with the guidance you need. I love writing and hope that passion shows in these posts. When I'm not writing on this blog, I like to design kites and work on model railroads, and I just started dabbling with watercolours on canvas.

Performing regular inspection of your hydraulic systems

Repairing a hydraulic system can be a very difficult task depending on the state of the damage. If your system has become contaminated, for example, you might need to dissemble the whole system piece by piece and replace all vital components to keep it functional. However, to avoid having to deal with expensive and time consuming repairs on your hydraulic system, you should make sure to inspect the system regularly. To keep the machines at your workplace operational and in peak condition, you should make sure some procedures take place to make sure the hydraulic systems are working as they should.

Cylinder

Carrying out an inspection of the most important part of the hydraulic systems after every work shift can help you establish any cause of malfunction even before it actually happens. Hydraulic cylinder service is one thing you should take extra care of doing, as the cylinder is the most important part for a functional hydraulic system. Visually investigate the cylinder for any build up of oil or chemicals. If the system has been contaminated, that should be the first sign. Also make sure the cylinder isn't dented or scratched. Replacing a damaged cylinder is easier than repairing a system already ruined by a malfunctioning cylinder.

Filters

The filters are also very important to investigate as often as possible, as the filters will give you information about any contamination in the system. If the filters have gathered small pieces of metal, this is a sign that the liquid is contaminated and has started to corrode the different parts of the system. If this happens, you should make sure you contact a professional about cleaning the system before the damage is so severe that you need to replace it. Clogged filters could also increase the pressure of the hydraulic liquid and make the system function improperly.

Smells and sounds

Also take extra notice of peculiar odours forming in your hydraulic system. Take extra notice of odours that form while the system is operating. This might indicate that you are working at a temperature that is wrong for the hydraulic liquid. It could also be an indicator that hydraulic liquid is leaking out somewhere in the system. Any leaks should be located as soon as possible to not lose valuable liquid but also because leaks are vulnerable places where substances from the outside might enter the hydraulic system and contaminate it. Another way to discover leaks is to take notice to strange sounds that might form when highly pressurised liquid is pushed out of a small crack in a pipe.
